Aquaculture

Our research in aquaculture aims to boost the value, competitiveness and sustainability of Australia's aquaculture industry.

Breeding

From developing premium feeds right through to gene technologies, we're helping Australian farmers breed outstanding produce.

Fisheries

Australian fisheries are among the best managed in the world. Management changes introduced by the Australian Government and the fishing industry since 2006 have achieved more sustainable fish stocks and improved profits in most Commonwealth fisheries.

Insects

From the detailed studies of the Australian National Insect Collection through to our complex work on insect ecology, we've got Australian insects under the microscope.

Livestock

We work with livestock farmers and allied industries to improve their productivity, profitability and sustainability through better livestock breeds and management practices.

Marine life

Australia's oceans are amongst the most diverse and there are many marine habitats that are unexplored. Our marine animals research includes biodiversity and fisheries.

Pests

Invasive species and other pests cost Australia billions of dollars a year in lost production and environmental damage, plus endanger hundreds of native species. We help protect Australian agriculture and our iconic flora and fauna from pests and diseases.

Veterinary

We work with veterinary and animal health officers to detect, diagnose and find solutions to many animal diseases. We also work with primary producers and industry to develop innovative solutions to problems.

Wildlife

We have a long history of research supporting Australia's wildlife.

Southern bluefin tuna

We are using invisible DNA 'fingerprints' from individual juvenile southern bluefin tuna (SBT) as tags for monitoring the size of the population and to provide data for setting the total allowable global catch.
