Our specialist astronomy education officer runs a range of workshops for teachers at locations around Australia throughout the year.
Astronomy from the Ground Up! workshop
An annual three-day workshop held at Parkes Observatory, ‘Astronomy from the Ground Up!’ is suitable for primary and secondary school teachers. Participants meet professional astronomers, hear lectures on different aspects of astronomy including some of the latest discoveries, tour the radio telescope, and receive an extensive range of resources. Teachers registered in New South Wales receive full accreditation for workshop hours through our agreement with the Science Teachers' Association of NSW; the workshop also qualifies as a Galileo Teacher Training Program, providing international certification for participants.
Astronomy sessions at science teacher conferences
Our team regularly present professional development sessions at conferences run by groups such as the Australian Science Teachers Association and the various state-based science teachers' associations.
