National research facilities and collections

We host Australia's national research facilities and scientific infrastructure on behalf of the nation to enable research. These specialised facilities are available to international and Australian users from industry and research organisations.

Australian Centre for Disease Preparedness

ACDP (formerly known as the Australian Animal Health Laboratory) helps protect Australia’s multi-billion dollar livestock and aquaculture industries, and the general public, from emerging infectious disease threats. It is a high-containment facility designed to allow scientific research into the most dangerous infectious agents in the world.

Australia Telescope National Facility

Australia's leading observatories for radio astronomy – the Australia Telescope National Facility – are used by astronomers from around the world, 24 hours a day, every day, to learn about our Universe.

Marine National Facility

The Marine National Facility is Australia's dedicated blue-water research capability, funded by the Australian Government and owned and operated by CSIRO.

National Research Collections Australia

The National Research Collections Australia is home to 15 million natural history specimens that are used by researchers, government and industry to describe, manage and benefit from Australia’s rich biodiversity.

NovaSAR-1 satellite

Our share of the NovaSAR-1 satellite will support research and environmental management, and create new opportunities in remote sensing.

Pawsey Supercomputing Centre

A world-class high-performance computing facility in Perth, Western Australia accelerating scientific discoveries for Australia's researchers.

Atlas of Living Australia

As Australia's national biodiversity database, the ALA provides free, online access to a vast repository of information about Australia's amazing biodiversity.

International facilities

We manage major facilities under contract for international partners including NASA, the European Space Agency and the SKA Observatory.

Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex

Canberra Deep Space Communication Complex (CDSCC) is part of NASA's Deep Space Network, a global network that supports interplanetary spacecraft missions exploring the Solar System and beyond.

New Norcia ground station

We provide operational support for the European Space Agency's deep space ground station in Australia, which is essential for communicating with spacecraft voyaging across our Solar System.

CSIRO and the Square Kilometre Array

The Square Kilometre Array, or SKA, project is an international effort to build the world’s largest radio astronomy observatory, designed to enable transformational science that will change our understanding of the Universe.
