Remote aeroplane maintenance
In the aerospace industry, costs associated with aircraft downtime are a critical issue. TAE is a provider of maintenance and engineering support for the aviation industry and they saw an opportunity to commercialise the GMR system to help aviation businesses all around the world utilise the technology.
The GMR remote wearable system gives maintenance workers access to a virtual pair of expert eyes and hands to guide them through difficult tasks.
Integrating this new system into TAE's business required direct assistance from the developer to tailor it for the aviation industry and get it ready for commercialisation.
Our response
Wearable tech for the aerospace industry
Through the Federal Government's Innovation Connections program our SME Connect team embedded a researcher into TAE's business to troubleshoot integration of the system into their business. The researcher also helped train and support TAE staff using the GMR technology, allowing them to construct and maintain GMR systems for their customers.
The results
Commercialisation in full flight
The integration of the GMR technology into TAE will allow them to repair and maintain aircraft for their customers remotely. This translates to a more affordable service, especially for remote customers.
Using the GMR system is just like having an expert in the room with you, even if that expert is located in another state or country. That means faster maintenance or repair and no more waiting for days to get an aircraft back up and running.
TAE have customised and tested the GMR system specifically for the aerospace industry and they are now commercialising this innovative product and offering it to similar businesses all around the world through a spin out company called Fountx.
Fountx has recently partnered with Singaporean engineering and defence company, ST Aerospace to support aircraft technicians using the GMR wearable technology, also called Fountx AsR.
